Indio de madera · Carved Wood Indian
Rise Allen bought this carved wood sculpture — the classic cigar-store Indian — forty years ago. Time had damaged the pedestal, the cigars, both hands and one foot, with cracks and breaks all over the body, and the paint and wood falling off in pieces. The restoration involved removing the old paint, a careful cleaning, stabilizing the wood, wood-filler fills, reattaching the broken pieces and working their joints — then priming, painting in his original colors, and an aged finish. He stands whole again at home.
